Boris Shukhov

Although he had only a brief career as a cyclist, Boris Shukhov became both a World and Olympic champion. In 1968 Shukhov won the 25 km individual race and the 100 km team race at the USSR championships, earning a place on the Olympic team. At the Mexico City Games he was part of the Soviet quartet that finished ninth in the team time trial. Two years later, Shukhov, Valery Yardy, Viktor Sokolov, and Valery Likhachov won gold in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Leicester, England. After winning two more Soviet titles in the 100 km team race, he then returned to the Olympics for the 1972 Games in München, where the quartet of Shukhov, Yardy, Likhachov, and Gennady Komnatov won gold in the team time trial. In 1973 Shukhov won silver in the team time trial at the World Championships in Barcelona, as well as both the Tour de Bretagne and the Tour of Yugoslavia.
