Biography

Polish cyclist Wacław Starzyński competed on either side of World War II, representing Syreny Warszawa. In 1936 Starzyński became the national cyclo-cross champion before competing in the road race at the Berlin Olympics. At the Games he was in the main peloton of more than 20 riders who tied for 16th place, just three seconds behind the winning time. He had further national success, winning the team road race in 1938, along with three consecutive titles on the track in the 4,000 metres team pursuit from 1937 to 1939. After his cycling career Starzyński worked as a lorry driver for the State Council.
