During the latter half of the 1940s Croatian Aleksandar Strain enjoyed a brief career as a cyclist. In 1946 Strain had multiple top-five finishes on stages of the Tour of Romania to finish fourth overall in the general classification. The following year he won the Tour of Yugoslavia, and finished first in the team time trial and third in the road race at the Balkan Championships. In 1948 he finished third at the Tour of Yugoslavia and competed in the road race at the London Olympics. One year later Strain became the Yugoslav road race champion before finishing his cycling career and taking Italian citizenship.
