Biography

During the 1960s and 1970s Swedish road cyclist Curt Söderlund won several national titles in addition to celebrating success abroad. Söderlund began his career by winning the Junior Nordic Road Championship in 1963, before becoming the Swedish team time trial champion the following year. He was the Swedish road champion in 1968 and 1973, and the national time trial champion in 1970. Arguably his biggest win came in 1968 when he won the Tour du Maroc stage race in North Africa. In 1967 Söderlund came seventh in the road race at the UCI World Championships, earning him a place on the Olympic team. At the 1968 Mexico City Games he had a disappointing race, finishing almost 20 minutes behind the winner in 51st. After his cycling career he became a coach for the national team, working with the Swedish cyclists at the 1976 Montréal Olympics.
