In 1964 Mongolia made its début at the Olympics, sending a delegation of 21 athletes to the Tokyo Games. Choijiljavyn Samand was one of the four cyclists the nation sent to compete in Tokyo. Samand failed to finish in the road race but did place 23rd in the 100 kilometres team time trial with his compatriots. One year after the Games he rode in the Peace Race in Eastern Europe, and he later becoming a cycling coach.
