Description

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) for Mongolia was formed on 26 February 1956 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 60th IOC session in Moskva on 5 June 1962. Mongolia has competed at the Olympic Games since 1964, its only absence being the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, which it boycotted. Its first Olympic appearance was at the 1964 Winter Olympics and it has since missed only the 1976 Olympic Winter Games. Until the 2008 Olympics, Mongolia was the country that had won the most Olympic medals (15) without winning an Olympic title. But that drought was ended in 2008 as Naidangiin Tüvshinbayar (half-heavyweight judo) and Enkhbatyn Badar-Uugan (bantamweight boxing) both won gold medals, leaving the Philippines as the new owner of this doubtful Olympic record.
