Biography

From the early 1950s until the mid-1960s Croatian cyclist Nevenko Valčić won more than 100 races. In 1956 Valčić finished second at the Yugoslavia road championships before winning the national title three years in a row from 1957 to 1959. In 1958 he also won the overall classification in the Tour of Yugoslavia, and he went on to finish third in 1960. That same year he also competed at the Roma Olympics, finishing 31st in the individual road race and 15th in the 100 kilometres team time trial. Valčić also won stages at both the Tour of Tunisia and the Tour of Bulgaria, continuing to finish on the podium in multiple stages of the Tour of Yugoslavia. Following his death in 2007 his hometown of Loborika has held a memorial race in his honour.
