Biography

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s Argentine cyclist Carlos Alberto Vázquez competed on both the road and track. In 1952 Vázquez won a criterium road race around the streets of Mercedes, Corrientes before winning the 1957 edition of the Doble Bragado in Buenos Aires. Two years later he competed at the Pan American Games in Chicago, winning gold in the team road race and bronze in the sprint on the track. Vázquez won the Doble Bragado again in 1960 followed by another gold at the Pan American Games, this time in the track time trial in 1963 in São Paulo. The following year he was part of Argentina’s delegation at the Tokyo Olympics, where he rode in the sprint and the 1,000 metres time trial in the velodrome. Vázquez finished his career with one more medal at the Pan American Games, with bronze in the 1,000 metres track time trial at the 1967 Games in Winnipeg.
