A British citizen living and working in Paris, John Braid was added to the French team as number 12 in what was a unique 12-a-side match in Paris. Despite being the last to bat, he was the top scorer for the French team, with 25 of their 78 runs, before being run out. He was also the second highest scorer in the second innings, scoring seven of his team’s paltry total of 26. Nothing else is known about Braid, other than he was vice-captain of the Albion Club.
Although Braid was a British national in 1900, he entered the Olympic cricket match while playing for the French side, Union des Sociétés Français de Sports Athletiques, although in Britain he was a member of the combined team made up of players from the Union Club and the Standard Athletic Club that joined with the French side for the Olympic match.
