Biography

Jacques Sautereau came from a long line of officers in the French military and spent most of his life in the service as well, being still active into the first decade of the 1900s. His family was also well-known in sporting circles, with his brother Antoine being the head of the publication Sport. Jacques, however, was the only one in his immediate family to participate in the Olympics, which he did by playing one-ball and two-ball singles croquet at the 1900 Paris Games, finishing third in the two-ball event. Three of his cousins also competed in the 1900 croquet events – Marcel Haëntjens, Marie Ohier, and Jeanne Filleaul-Brohy.
