Biography

René Crabos was one of the most prominent rugby players of his time, playing for various clubs, including Dax, the hometown of Alphonse Castex, where he shaped as a center three-quarter. Crabos later joined Tarbes and the Racing Club de France. With Tarbes, he was French champion in 1919. A 17-time international, Crabos developed new strategies and formed a legendary trio together with François Borde and Adolphe Jauréguy, silver medalist at Paris in 1924. Still playing on a high level, Crabos eventually had to retire after breaking a leg. After World War II, he acted as manager of the French rugby team before serving as President of the French Rugby Association from 1952-62. His occupation was selling feathers and downs.
