Biography

V. Smith usually played as a front row forward and was also a useful place kicker. He went to King Edward’s School in Birmingham, and after finishing his education, played for the Old Edwardians, one of the top Midlands teams at the time. Smith was recruited by Moseley Wanderers to compete in the 1900 Paris Olympics, and played just 24 hours after appearing for his club against Leicester, and then had to make the long trip to France by train, boat and train.
