Biography

Mexican-born Ian Taylor was a hockey inside-forward or centre-forward. After attending St. Edmund’s School Canterbury, he went to St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, where he won his hockey Blue and was appointed captain in 1960. That year, he was also a member of the Great Britain team that finished fourth at the Roma Olympics.

Taylor, who had toured Germany with the Great Britain squad in 1959, was a Kent county player, had also played for The South, and was also a full England international. He played his club hockey with the London club Tulse Hill. In addition to being a good hockey player, Taylor was also a fine sprinter and won an athletics Blue at Oxford in 1960.
