Eva Hegener and the West German field hockey team were fifth at the 1988 Seoul Games after a 4-2 win against Canada in the classification round. She won 35 international caps (including five indoor) between 1981-88. Domestically, Hegener played with Kölner HTC Blau-Weiß, helping them to win the 1980 German Championship, also the indoor title in 1980 and 1985. She became a graduated sports teacher by profession.
