Biography

The German field hockey team won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics after losing 8-1 to India in the final. Forward Werner Hamel played in the 4-1 in over Afghanistan in the group stage and scored one goal. He was also used in the final. Between 1932-37 he earned 12 international caps. He played for Berliner HC, and twice won the German Championship in 1941 and 1942.
