Nelly Wies-Weyrich was 30-years-old when she took up archery at the Flèche d’Or sports club in Luxembourg, with her later becoming an eight-time national champion. In 1972 Luxembourg sent a delegation of 11 athletes to the München Olympics, with Wies-Weyrich being the only woman on the team. She finished 24th out of 40 in the individual recurve event, scoring 2,252 points. That same year she was also named as the sportswoman of the year in Luxembourg.
