Biography

Fernand de l’Angle-Beaumanoir refereed fencing at the 1900 Paris Olympics. He was a descendant of Jean de Beaumonoir, who took part in the Combat of the Thirty in 1351. Fernand became a military man and fencing specialist. By 1878 he was an adjutant major in the 144th regiment and captain of the National Guard of the Seine.

De l’Angle-Beaumanoir was President of the Salle d’Armes Mimiague-Rouleau, honorary vice-president of La Jeune Épée, and vice-president of the Société d’encouragement de l’éscrime. He wrote prefaces to at least two books on fencing, including L’Escrime à l’épée, traité d’armes adopté par l’école d’escrime à l’épée de Paris by Anthime Spinnewyn and Paul Manoury and L’Art de Tromper Le Fer by Léon Tempié.
