Biography

During the six-year period that Ashfaq Ahmed played on the national hockey team, Pakistan won three major international titles. In 1968, Pakistan won the Olympic gold for the second time, beating Australia in the final after their arch-rivals India had shockingly failed to make the final. In 1970, Pakistan won the final at the Asian Games, defeating India 1-0. In 1971, Ahmed and his team mates also conquered the first ever Hockey World Cup, triumphing over Spain in the final. An inside right attacker, Ahmed earned a total of 49 caps, scoring 11 times.
