Biography

When she won her second consecutive national ladies’ foil title in 1914, Alice Walker beat her sister Charlotte in the final bout to clinch the title. The next championship was in 1920 when Charlotte was champion, with Alice in third place. Of the two siblings, it was Alice who gained Olympic selection, for the individual foil in 1924. She was one of four British entrants, and the only one not to qualify for the semi-finals. In 1939, Walker became a vice-president of the Ladies’ Amateur Fencing Association.
