Biography

Tanya Adamovich grew up in Belarus where she graduated from the Belarus Institute of Physical Culture and Sports. She then attended the Belarus State University where she studied journalism for three years. Adamovich started in sports in track & field, and emigrated to the United States in 1968 where she joined the New York Fencers’ Club. In the United States she earned a masters’ degree from Adelphi University in physical education. Adamovich was US Champion with the foil in 1973 and competed at the 1971 and 1973 World Championships, in addition to the 1972 Olympics. She later taught fencing at Adelphi and C.W. Post on Long Island, and also coached fencing at Pace University and the Portledge School. In 1998 Adamovich received the Golden Ring Award from the US Olympic Committee.
