Biography

Since 1976 Slovak archer Martin Hámor represented the top team in Czechoslovakia with him competing in the championship for Olympic selection for the 1980 Moskva Games. Hámor finished in second place at the national championships with Czechoslovakia sending František Hadaš as their only representative in the men’s competition. Czechoslovakia boycotted the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and four years later their archery union deemed the 1988 Seoul Games as being too financially demanding, so they did not send any archers. Hámor finally got his opportunity to compete at the Olympics when he participated at the 1992 Barcelona Games following his performance at the European Championships in Malta. He was the oldest member of the Czechoslovak delegation and the oldest archer to compete in Spain where he finished in 65th place. Hámor’s career as an archer ended in 1999 after he suffered from a herniated disc. Despite this, he continued to be involved in the sport working as a coach in Určice.
