Educated at St. Paul’s School, Angus McKenzie won the 1952 Public Schools´ Fencing Championship and in 1956 was the English junior épée champion. During his time doing National Service in the early-1950s McKenzie continued to fence with the Royal Navy.
McKenzie made his international début for Great Britain at the 1957 Paris World Championships, and after appearing at the 1959 worlds in Budapest was selected for the following year´s Roma Olympics where he finished equal fifth in the team foil event after GB lost 9-7 to Hungary in the quarter-final. McKenzie never won an individual British title.
