Biography

East German fencer Horst Melzig was a member of the épée team at the 1972 München Summer Games. The team was eliminated in the first round, beating the US team and Argentina, but losing to Romania. Individually, Melzig missed the final pool as he placed an unfortunate fourth in his semifinal pool. In 1965 he won his only East German national title.
