Biography

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s épée and foil fencer Aly Doerfel won multiple titles with each weapon at the national championships of Luxembourg. Doerfel won his first medal at the Luxembourg championships with a silver in the foil in 1969. In the épée he won individual titles in 1976 and 1981, along with three silver medals (1973–74, 1980). From 1977 to 1979 he won three consecutive team foil titles, followed by another one in 1982, and his final title in 2004. Doerfel was part of Luxembourg’s épée team at the 1972 München Olympics where they lost their two pool matches to Switzerland and Poland.
