Franz Kanis was on the bicycle polo team of Germany which lost against Great Britain 3-1. He was one of the best amateur trick riders in Germany in that era. Kanis began cycling at only 6-years-old and his career lasted 14 years, as he participated in the 1908 London Olympics.
