Although he was a member of the National Sporting Club and St. James’s Athletic Club, Garry Edmunds was for many years associated with the oldest boxing club in London, Cestus BC. He served the club as both secretary and treasurer. As a boxer, Edmunds specialised more in exhibition bouts rather than championship contests. He was also an ABA referee and judge, and officiated at their annual Championships. He was involved in just two contests at the 1908 London Olympics, when he was a judge for the Snowy Baker - Bill Child middleweight quarter-final, and the featherweight semi-final between Charlie Morris and Hugh Roddin. In 1905, Edmunds and his wife were charged with running an illegal betting operation. He was fined £100 in lieu of three months hard labour. In a sport were gambling played a big part, however, his misdemeanour did nothing jeopardise his future as a boxing official.
