Biography

Louis Chodron de Courcel was the son of Alphonse Chodron de Courcel, French ambassador to London and minister plenipotentiary. He became baron de Courcel in 1919 after the death of his father. Louis studied at the École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr from 1894-96. Later, he became a cavalry squadron leader in the 7th Cuirassier Regiment. He was made Knight of the Legion of Honour and was awarded the Croix de Guerre in World War I.

In 1907, he married Alice Marie Claire Lambert-Benoit-Champy; together they had three daughters and one son. At the 1912 Olympics, Chodron de Courcel was entered in dressage and jumping but did not compete.
