Fernando Correia was one of the founders of the Portuguese Olympic Committee in 1909. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, he was a member of the first-ever Portuguese team, competing in the individual épée event and also acted as Head of Mission. As a lieutenant, he was a member of the Portuguese épée team at the Interallied Games in 1919 that won silver after losing the final to France. At the 1920 Olympics at Antwerp, Correia made his second Olympic appearance, reaching round three in the individual épée event.
