Biography

Ulf Ling-Vannérus joined the Swedish military after World War II and became an officer in the calvary in 1950. After further studies at the Royal Swedish Army Staff College from 1958 to 1960, he continued to rise through the ranks, eventually serving in top-level posts both at home and abroad. He also taught at the Swedish Armed Forces Staff College. During this time he became adept at fencing, winning several Swedish titles in the 1950s and 1960s. He also represented his country at the 1960 Rome Olympics, where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the team épée event, alongside Hans Lagerwall, Göran Abrahamsson, Berndt-Otto Rehbinder, and Carl-Wilhelm Engdahl.
