Biography

James Flynn began fencing in a Boy Scout troop where one of his coaches was U.S. Olympian, Warren Dow. After attending the Ohio College of Chiropody, he returned east to commence his medical practice and organized the first of four fencing clubs he would eventually establish in New Jersey He later became an AFLA vice-president and an internationally rated president of jury. Flynn’s competitive record includes winning the 1947 AFLA National Championship in sabre individual – at age 40. Representing the New York AC, he was a member of four national championship teams.
