Londoner Ronnie Noakes fought as a lightweight and welterweight freestyle wrestler. A member of the famous Ashdown Club, he reached the welter semi-final at the 1944 national championships before losing to the defending champion A. Jones of Barking. Despite losing in a trial for the 1948 Olympics, Noakes was still reserve to Peter Luck in the lightweight division.
