Biography

Ivan Dimitrov was a defender who played football at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He earned 70 caps for Bulgaria, also playing at the 1962 and 1970 FIFA World Cups. Dimitrov began his career playing as a youth with Akademik Sofia. As a senior he started with Stroitel Sofia in 1953 and then played with Torpedo Sofia and Zavod 12 Sofia. He is best known for his decade with Lokomotiv Sofia (1956-65), after which he finished his career with Spartak Sofia in 1965-69, before returning to Akademik for his final two years (1969-71). He appeared in 340 matches in the premier Bulgarian League. Dimitrov helped Lokomotiv Sofia win the Bulgarian League in 1963/64, and was with Spartak Sofia in 1967/68 when they won the Bulgarian Cup.
