Biography

Moustafa Kamel Taha was born in Cairo’s Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood. He started playing football at Khedivial School and then joined El-Mokhtalat SC (later Farouk Club, since 1952 Al-Zamalek SC). As a forward, he was part of the team from 1928-30, before he was transferred to local rival Al-Ahly. In 1933, he went back to El-Mokhtalat, winning the Egyptian Cup with both teams. He was part of the Egyptian squad for the 1934 World Cup in Italy, playing Egypt’s only game in the tournament against Hungary and both qualifiers against Palestine, where he scored two goals.

After taking part in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Taha returned in Mokhtalat and, by 1945, was team captain. He retired from active competition at the end of that season. Two of his brothers, Hussein and Hassan Sharif, also played football on international level.
