Biography

Alvin Canales was a Puerto Rican heavyweight boxer who won a bronze medal at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. Canales was one of six boxers to contest for the heavyweight title, beating Andrews Salgado in the first round and losing to the eventual gold medallist Aibek Oralbay in the semi-finals, before winning his bronze medal match against Daniel Mikušťák. Despite a promising start to his career Canales was forced to retire from boxing shortly after due to a heart condition. In July 2022 Canales was one of two people who were murdered in a drive-by shooting. He was only 20-years-old.
