Derek Lewin

Derek Lewin played at either inside-forward or centre-forward. He made his name with Bishop Auckland but played a handful of games for Oldham Athletic in the second division in 1953-54 and on his début against Lincoln City he scored the only goal of the game as Oldham won their first match of the season after nine attempts. He played in the Bishop Auckland team that won three successive FA Amateur cups in the fifties. He scored both the goals in a 2-0 win over Hendon in 1955, another brace in the 4-1 win in the repay against Corinthian Casuals in 1956 and the following year he scored one goal when they beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 in what was the record tenth and last win in the competition. He joined Manchester United on loan, along with Bishop Auckland team-mates Warren Bradley and Bob Hardisty following the Munich air disaster. However, he never played for the United first team. Capped by England amateurs five times he was called into the Great Britain squad for the 1956 Olympics and played in the second match against Bulgaria. He was a director of Blackpool FC between 1970 and 1975 and later became president of the Lancashire Football Association.
