Biography

Luciano Alfieri was born in Milano and started to play football as goalkeeper with AC Milan. As he did not become first choice for the senior squad he moved to third-division US Siracusa on a loan for the 1956-57 season. After returning to Milan in the summer of 1957 he became the reserve keeper for the next five seasons. He played his first league match in March 1958, his only appearance in that season, and had to wait until the 1959-60 season to play 12 more matches for Milan. When he only played two more matches in the next two seasons, he left AC Milan after a total of 15 Series A games in the summer of 1962 and joined second league Calcio Lecco (22 Series B matches) only to move to third-division Treviso Calcio (24 Series C matches) in 1963, before returning to AC Milan. Alfieri stayed one more season without playing a match and retired in 1965. With AC Milan he also became league champion in 1961-62 without playing a single match.

On the international level he represented AC Milan once in November 1959 in a European Cup away match against FC Barcelona, losing 5-1. Alfieri did much better at the 1960 Olympics, where he was the oldest Italian player selected and was the number one choice as goalkeeper. During the tournament he played all five matches as Italy finished fourth, but never earned a full international cap.
