Biography

Jeong Hae-Won was a South Korean footballer who spent his entire senior career playing for Daewoo Royals (now Busan IPark). After playing for Yonsei University during his college career Jeong made his début for Daewoo in 1983, where he played in almost 150 matches and scored 34 goals for the team. With the club he won three K League 1 titles (1984, 1987, 1991), the Korean National Championship (1989), and the Asian Club Championship (1985–86). He was also the league’s top goal scorer in 1986 and the league’s MVP in 1987. From 1980 to 1990 Jeong made 65 appearances for the South Korean national football team, scoring 22 goals. In 1988 he was part of the squad that played in the football tournament at the Seoul Olympics, but he suffered an injury during the team’s first match and was ruled out of the rest of the competition. Two years later he played in the group matches against Spain and Uruguay at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. Following his playing career Jeong had a brief stint as a manager with his old club Daewoo Royals.
