Football midfielder Rinus Bennaars began his domestic career in the Netherlands with the second division side DOSKO in the 1950–51 season. Bennaars made more than 200 appearances for the team, scoring 100-plus goals, before playing for NOAD for the 1958–59 season. He then played for Feijenoord from 1959 until 1964, winning back-to-back league titles in 1960–61 and 1961–62. He spent his final years with DFC before retiring from the sport in 1966.
Bennaars was a talented young player and was called up to the national team only a short time after making his début with DOSKO. He played in his first international match for the Netherlands in November 1951, scoring in their 7–6 loss to Belgium. The following year he was part of the Dutch team that competed in the football tournament at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. They played Brazil in the qualifying round, with the Dutch team taking the lead when Jan van Roessel scored 15 minutes into the match. The good start did not last, however, with Brazil winning the match 5–1 to eliminate the Netherlands from the competition. Bennaars played 15 matches for the Netherlands, scoring his only other goal in 1–0 win against England in a friendly in March 1954. His final match was a 2–1 loss to Luxembourg in Rotterdam in October 1963.
