Erling Maartmann played together with his twin brother Rolf as an attacker for the club Lyn from Kristiania (now Oslo). He joined the club in 1905 and won the Norwegian cup four consecutive times (1908-11). At the 1912 Olympic Games, Erling Maartmann represented Norway in the matches against Denmark and Austria, both of which were lost without scoring a single goal. He won a total of eight caps from 1911-15 and was active until 1919. Both brothers played in exactly the same international matches.
Erling studied economy and later worked as an office manager in the transport business. He married Dagny Krentz in 1918. Together they had four children.
