Erik Bergström played as a defender in Sweden’s first ever international match against Norway in 1908 against Norway. He scored four of Sweden’s 11 goals in this match. From 1908-13, he earned a total of seven caps and scored six goals. At the 1908 and 1912 Olympic Games he was a member of the Swedish team. While he was an unused reserve in 1908, he played in both of Sweden’s matches, which were both lost.
Nationally, Bergström represented Örgryte IS from Göteborg and won seven Swedish Championship titles with this club (1902, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1909, 1913). He was the brother of 1908 Olympian Gustaf Bergström, one-time international Henrik (1889-1956), and Örgryte IS player and referee Georg Bergström. Erik Bergström was 1903 Swedish champion in long jump. He was forced to retire due to a back injury. In 1910, he worked as a bank clerk.
