Vladimír Weiss began playing as a youth with Lokomotíva Vrútky. His senior career lasted from 1958-69, playing with ČH/Inter Bratislava, Baník Prievidza, and Trnávka. He was a centre-back who made 236 appearances in the top Czechoslovak league. Weiss was capped three times as a senior and twice with the Czechoslovakian U-23 team. He won a league title with ČH Bratislava in 1958/59. Weiss later became a coach and manager, leading Trnávka, Rapid Bratislava, Slovenský Grob, Pezinok, and Limbach.
Weiss’s son Vladimír also played football for the national teams of Czechoslovakia and Slovakia. He was a member of the Czechoslovakian team in the 1990 World Cup, and later became manager of the Slovakia national football team that qualified for their first World Cup in 2010. Weiss’s grandson, also named Vladimír, had spells in England and also represented his native country Slovakia on the international level.
