The footballing career of Anatoly Konkov spanned more than six decades, with him playing for Ukrainian teams in the former Soviet Union and internationally for the USSR, followed by a lengthy spell as a coach. Konkov joined Avanhard Kramatorsk as a youth player in 1959, staying with the club until 1968. This was followed by spells at Shakhtar Donetsk (1968–74) and Dynamo Kyiv (1975–81), making more than 330 appearances for the two sides. During his domestic career he won four Soviet Championships (1975, 1977, 1980, 1981) and one Soviet Football Cup (1978). From 1971 to 1978 Konkov played in 47 matches for the Soviet Union, finishing second at the 1972 UEFA European Championship and winning bronze at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. From 1982 until 2012 Konkov worked as a coach with clubs in the Soviet Union, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. In 1995 he had a brief stint as the head coach of the Ukraine national football team, taking charge for seven matches. He later served as the President of the Football Federation of Ukraine from 2012 to 2015.
