Biography

Julia Muir was a Zimbabwean professional tennis player and coach. Muir achieved a career-best singles ranking of #693 in the world in August 1992, and a doubles ranking of #516 in the world in August 1992. Muir competed in the singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the doubles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. After receiving a bye in the first round in Seoul, she then lost in straight sets in the next round to Sylvia Hanika. At the 1992 Games she partnered Sally-Anne McDonald, with the pair being eliminated in the first round.

At the 1991 All-Africa Games Muir won a gold and a bronze medal in the doubles and singles, respectively. The following year she had her best performance on the ITF circuit, reaching two finals in Harare. She lost the singles final in straight sets to Julie Pullin but won the doubles final with Sally-Anne McDonald. Muir later moved to New Zealand where she worked as a tennis coach. She was the first coach of British tennis player Cameron Norrie, changing him from playing right-handed to left-handed when he was just seven-years-old.
