Biography

Philip Tuckniss was a Zimbabwean tennis player who played professionally from 1985 to 1988. Tuckniss achieved a career-best singles ranking of #456 in the world in July 1986, and a doubles ranking of #828 in the world in July 1987. He played on Zimbabwe’s Davis Cup team from 1983 to 1988.

Tuckniss was born in Zimbabwe before moving to the United States where he studied at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) from 1980 to 1983. Whilst at UTC he won three singles and three doubles titles in the Southern Conference. He was inducted into the UTC’s Hall of Fame in 1992. Tuckniss and Mark Gurr competed in the doubles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics with the pair reaching the second round.
