Biography

Anita Bärwirth, a German gymnast from Kiel, won the gold medal with the German team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The eight exercises were held outdoors in front of 20,000 spectators at the Dietrich Eckart Stage, nowadays called Waldbühne. Individually she was placed ninth. She later emigrated to Argentina and her daughter Christina Hardekopf was the flagbearer of the Argentina team at the 1960 Olympics and took part in the diving events.
