Biography

Julie Schmitt, a German gymnast from München, won the gold medal with the German team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The eight exercises were held outdoors in front of 20,000 spectators at Dietrich Eckart Stage, nowadays called Waldbühne. Individually she was placed 27th. Schmitt later played tennis, and was also an alpine skier and mountaineer.
