Biography

Eszter Voit’s father Ervin Voit was a painter and the cousin of the famous Hungarian composer, Béla Bartók. Eszter Voit played competitive tennis and ice skated in high school, but later achieved significant success in gymnastics. Between 1934 and 1938 she was with TFSE (Testnevelési Főiskola Sport Egylet) and in 1935-36 was a member of the Hungarian national team. At the 1935 Universiade, under the Hungarized name of Völgyi, she won a gold medal in the team event and a bronze medal in individual all-around. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics she was a member of the Hungarian team that finished third. Voit graduated from the College of Physical Education in 1938 and worked as a high school physical education teacher until her retirement.
