Biography

Antoine Costa had Spanish nationality at birth and was part of the Spanish community in Algeria like his fellow gymnasts Louis Ségura and Marco Torrès. Antoine’s father, a coachman of Spanish descent, was already born in Oran. He competed in the individual artistic gymnastics’ events in London in 1908 and in Stockholm in 1912. He was also selected for the 1920 Games in Antwerpen but did not start. Costa achieved his greatest success at the 1911 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships winning silver in the team event with the French team and on the rings, as well as a bronze medal on the parallel bars. Later, he became a driver in Oran and married Maria Torres Rosario in 1923.
