Robert McGaw was one of eight Scotsmen selected for the Great Britain gymnastics delegation at the 1908 Olympics in London. Though also listed as a team official in the list of whips and stewards, he nevertheless was one of 45 British competitors in the team event.
McGaw was a member of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Highland Light Infantry in Blythswood, Glasgow and was a competitor and judge of local gymnastics events in the 1900s.
