Biography

Bernhard Simmelbauer was a member of the West German male gymnastics team that finished a respectable fourth at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He also placed 36th in the individual all-around but missed the apparatus finals. Four years later at Seoul, he finished a disappointing 12th with the team and 71st individually. In 1986 and 1987, he won national titles on the horizontal bar.

By profession, Simmelbauer studied medicine and became a sports physician, specialising in arthroscopic joint and shoulder surgery. Along with a colleague, they founded their own practice at Stuttgart.
